Analysis of spatial structures in the southern half of the Millevaches Regional Natural Park in Limousin.
The first step in understanding the territory is based on an objective analysis of its morpho-geography, without paying attention to land use.
Often absent, at best by transparency in contemporary cartographic representations, the relief, as a geological base shaped by water, is the most objective of the data.
Through the use of cuts, diagram blocks and other hypsometries, the landscape delivers its main keys to understanding through the identification of spatial structures.
These same structures form the fundamental basis for establishing landscape units and their contours in the greatest accuracy.
Among them, were identified:
— upper, intermediate and lower trays according to their altimetry,
the valleys, which bind the plateaus between them,
— the summits or puys that make up the collective horizon,
— the alveoli, which are depressions within the upper plateau, such as urns collecting water and often occupied by peat bogs.
