This table lists the different ecological corridors that ensure connections between biodiversity reservoirs, providing species with favourable conditions for their displacement and completion of their life cycle. (Article R. 317-19 III of the Environmental Code).
The regulations allow that not all biodiversity reservoirs are bound by ecological corridors (Article R. 317-19 II of the Environmental Code). This situation should be limited and mainly concern reservoirs of biodiversity with regard to:
the relevance of connecting or maintaining the natural isolation of these spaces (in particular: isolation to prevent the spread of invasive alien species or possible health problems caused by wildlife carrying diseases that can be transmitted to domestic species (e.g. swine fever) or even to humans (e.g. rabies);
B) an issue of preservation of certain areas which constitute an ecological network in ‘Japanese steps’ for associated species (example: ponds and lakes, ponds, peatlands) or certain spaces not connected today but which can serve tomorrow as a “relay” or as a new point in the ecological mesh of the territory (in the face of changes such as climate change, the evolution of the range, fires, the disappearance of reservoirs via a development project...).
