A surface hydrographic element corresponds to a surface unit containing a superficial aquatic environment:
— areas covered by permanent or non-permanent fresh water,
— areas covered by permanent or non-permanent salt water,
glaciers, nevated.
and whose characteristics (attributes) are homogeneous. A surface element is located by one face. Some attributes are managed by l'IGN: Nature, type.
A hydrographic entity is broken down into surface hydrographic elements.

Updated by l'IGN following requests from Agences de l'Water according to an annual cycle. The consolidated version is then sent to the Sandre

In case of major update that would not be compatible with previous version of API, we keep for 30 days both versions so you will have enough time to transfer to new version. We will inform you about the changes in advance by e-mail.
