Syrah-CE (Relational System of Audit of Hydromorphology of Water Courses) is a decision support system whose methodological development was initiated in 2006 by the Ministry in charge of Ecology and the Water Agencies, then technically led by the Irstea/Onema Center in Lyon at the creation of Onema.
In the context of the 2013 update of the state of play for watercourses, the SYRAH-EC approach has been positioned as a common national basis for the harmonised assessment of hydromorphological pressures and the resulting risks of alteration of watercourses. It responds to Recommendation 5 on monitoring the morphology of watercourses in the 2006 report of the General Inspectorate of the Environment “Assessment of the state of the metropolitan basins, 1st phase of the implementation of the WFD”.
This system will be used again for the next update of the inventory in 2019.
The system includes 2 types of data:
(1) a geographical and cartographic component allowing for the assessment of pressures s ' exerting on the water courses and carried out from data available at the national level
(2) a statistical and probabilistic component enabling the assessment of the risks of hydromorphological alteration from pressures
Pressures are available at the scale of river sections while the risks of hydromorphological alteration are also available at that of water bodies DCE, by elemental DCE parameter.
The user is alerted to the fact that these data do not reflect the final results of the 2013 inventory, as they are available on the water agencies’ basin portals accessible by www.eaufrance.fr. Indeed, while the SYRAH-CE data form the basis for assessing the hydromorphology of watercourses, these data could be used in different ways between basins to take account of context elements (e.g. adaptation for braided rivers). In addition, additional information and local technical consultations have led to the adjustment of the raw diagnosis from SYRAH-CE data.
