The National Police employed just over 126,000 active personnel in 2020, including 9,200 commissioners and officers, 107,600 peacekeepers and 10,300 deputy police officers. The initial and continuing training of these personnel is of particular importance, given the prerogatives of internal security missions — which are accompanied by a strict regulatory and ethical framework. The training apparatus of the national police is confronted with multiple tensions: large variations in recruitment, creation of new posts, increase in retirement over the next ten years. These tensions will continue to exert pressure on schools all the more as the length of schooling for guards and deputy police officers will be extended. Training must also enable the institution to respond to new threats (such as cybercrime). In today’s report, the Court of Auditors makes thirteen recommendations to address these new needs, divided into three main areas: organisation and means of training, initial training and continuing training.
