The area called “Bords de Deûle” extends from the north end of the park of the Citadelle in Lille to Wambrechies, on the municipalities of La Madeleine, Saint-André-Lez-Lille and Marquette-Lez-Lille. The history of the development of this sector at the gates of Lille is closely linked to the industrial development around the Deûle. This history of rich heritage led, after the disappearance of industrial activities, to a situation of breaking the link to the Deûle.
For years now, the MEL has been working to enhance the Canal de la Deûle and the Brand whose confluence is at the heart of the sector. The recapture of the brownfields, the development of the green and blue frame, among other actions, brought first solutions to what constitutes a new link to the canal. La Deûle is now considered a major asset for the sustainable development of the territory.
This renewed attractiveness of the “Bords de Deûle” highlights the many challenges of metropolitan importance in the sector and the need for stakeholders to mobilise around its future.
