Zero pesticide target in Île-de-France 2014

Pesticides (biocide, weed killers, insecticides, fungicides, etc.) are among the main causes of biodiversity loss in Île-de-France. While much of the responsibility lies with intensive agriculture and transportation infrastructure management, communities, businesses and individuals also use these products in non-agricultural areas, which has a definite impact on the environment and human health. However, when these substances are used in urban areas, heavily waterproofed, they are massively driven by rain to rivers and alter the drinking water resource. They inevitably cause profound changes in the environment. By stopping the use of pesticides on the spaces for which they are responsible, communities act in two ways in favour of biodiversity. On the one hand, they reduce their impact on the environment, and, by their exemplarity, they play a role of prescriber, relay to their private or corporate administrators.
