The Important Bird Conservation Areas (IBAs) are a scientific inventory that identifies the most favourable areas for the conservation of wild birds deemed to be of Community importance. This inventory was launched in 1990 by the Ministry of the Environment and published in 1994. It was carried out prior to the establishment of the Special Protection Zone (SPA) under the European Birds Directive. Not all IBAs have been systematically or fully designated as SPAs. This somewhat old inventory remains an element of knowledge of natural heritage.
