A hydrographic node is a change in water flow. It is always located at the end of an elementary hydrographic section.
The hydrographic node class managed by the IGN includes:
— confluences, diffluences, springs, mouths and losses of watercourses;
— containment dams;
— dams over the water;
— locks (for passage or refit);
— sources and waterfalls of tourist interest.
A hydrographic node is located by a geometric top. Some nodes correspond to an outlet of a hydrographic area.
