A transitional water body is a distinct and significant part of surface waters in the vicinity of river or river mouth, which are partially saline due to their proximity to coastal waters but remain fundamentally influenced by freshwater currents, constituting the elementary separation of aquatic environments to be the WFD assessment unit. DCE reporting correspondence: This entity corresponds to WISE’s Transitional Water Body (TWBODY) concept.
