A water point is a natural (source) or artificial access (drilling, drain, well...) to groundwater.
Each water point has a national code. This is the water point file code within the Sub-Sol Bank (BSS). It consists of the concatenation of the BSS index (10 characters) and the designation BSS (6 characters) separated by a character “/”. This last information always applies.
The national code may be supplemented, for information purposes, with the so-called ‘local’ codes, i.e. the internal code of the water point at the manager, at the owner of the water point...
Each water point is located by its geographical coordinates as part of a projection system and attached to the municipality in whose territory it is located. The assignment of the commune, altitude, the geographical coordinates at the water point is under the responsibility of the regional geological services of the BRGM as part of its management of the BSS.
Information on water points is the responsibility of the managers of the different functions of the water point.
