Altar deposits are decommissioned waste disposal facilities and other land on which waste has been treated, stored or disposed of.
According to §10 NBodSchG in Lower Saxony, the districts and district-free cities are responsible as the lower soil protection authority for contaminated sites. They carry out a legacy register according to §6 NBodSchG with information on the location, load and level of exploration. The LBEG has an advisory role in relation to the technical questions of these authorities.
The information on approximately 9500 altar deposits has been provided to the LBEG by the competent soil protection authorities and is updated every 3 years.
