Dataset description

Soils function on the one hand as an archive of natural history, because they allow conclusions about environmental conditions during soil formation, on the other hand as an archive of cultural history when human activities have left traces in them. They often preserve current and historical events over long periods of time. The evaluation was carried out on the basis of an open list of soils of high importance in landscape or cultural history (LfULG 2009). The criterion of rarity and archaeological soil monuments have not been taken into account.
