Aerial photographs are a photographic image of the landscape. They show a real picture of all objects visible from a bird’s-eye view, such as the road network, the construction, water and vegetation, as well as location-free objects such as cars that were at the site taken at the time of recording. Due to the special imaging conditions (central perspective), an aerial image, unlike a map, does not have an exact uniform scale. When photographing from the air, the differences in altitude in the terrain result in deviations in position. These are increasing sharply towards the edge of the picture. Through computational equalisation and digital image processing, digital orthophotos (DOPs) are created from the original aerial images, which represent the Earth’s surface in a true-to-scale and georeferenced manner.
