BFD50 — Field capacity 100 cm

The 1:50,000 scale map (BK50) provides an overview of the distribution of soil and soil-forming substrates for the entire state area of Rhineland-Palatinate. The surface is depicted up to a depth of two meters. Due to the scale, the legend units of the soil map are composed of soil form societies (BFG), which are described via several utilisation-differentiated soil forms (BF). The guiding soil form is the soil form, which has the largest proportion of land in a BFG. The field capacity (FK) denotes the amount of water that a naturally stored soil can withhold against gravity. It also includes so-called dead water, which is not usable for vegetation due to its high suction voltage (pF > 4.2).
