Bioclimatic importance of green and open spaces (municipality of Bremerhaven)

The Urban Climate Planning Note Map represents an integrated assessment of the issues presented in the climate function map with regard to planning-relevant issues. It can be used to deduce protection and development measures to the urban climate situation or to evaluate the effects of changes in use. The associated planning instructions provide information about the sensitivity to changes in use, from which climatically justified requirements and measures can be derived in the context of spatial planning. The planning recommendations relate primarily to the air exchange processes during wind-weak radiation weather conditions and thus concern the built-up urban area as an effective space and the adjacent open spaces, which are important as compensation areas by means of cold air transport and production. Division of the urban climate significance of green spaces into four classes (low, medium, high, very high). In the planning information map, green and open spaces are characterised in terms of their cold air supply capacity. Cold-air-producing areas (cold-air development areas) include unsealed open spaces (e.g. meadows, pastures and arable areas) as well as green areas characterised by loosened vegetation (e.g. park areas, small gardens and cemeteries) and forests.
