Locations of existing bioenergy plants in the district of Göttingen.
These are plants for the generation of renewable energies (biogas) from biomass through fermentation.
Biogas is an important and versatile form of bioenergy from agriculture. The new plants use almost all renewable raw materials (NaWaRo) such as maize, cereals, millet, sugar beet, sunflowers and partly growing grassland with or without manure.
Biogas is currently mainly produced in a decentralised manner and used as a supplier of electricity and heat. Due to this decentralisation of the plants, which is due to the fact that the primary raw material for biogas production such as slurry or energy crops, due to the low energy density, usually cannot be transported over longer distances due to the low energy density, the integration of good heat utilisation concepts is not always possible.
