A landmark is one of the cultural monuments of our country in addition to the building and art monuments as well as the movable monuments. Soil monuments are contemporary witnesses lying in the ground who tell of life in the past. These include, among others, remains of former fortifications, settlements, border drawings, cult and burial sites as well as production sites. The handling of these monuments is the responsibility of the Monument Protection Act M-V. The collection and data of these soil monuments refer to the district of Vorpommern-Rügen and are maintained by the lower monument protection authority of the district.
