Dataset description

The legend units of the soil overview map 1:200,000 and these standard profiles included for the content characterisation form the basis for the derivation of characteristics to location properties (potential cation exchange capacity), water movement (saturated water conductivity) and water binding (field capacity, usable field capacity, air capacity). The soil type-specific characteristics are derived according to the Soil Clinical Carting Instructions, 5th edition, Part B, pp. 342-372. — Soil type of the upper floor describes the typical soil type of the upper floor based on the profile descriptions of standard profiles in the nomenclature of the Soil Clinical Carting Instructions (KA5), p. 141ff, Fig. 17 and Tab. 30. Soil types are distinguished according to the grain size composition of their mineral stock. — Field capacity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth is the amount of soil water in volume % or mm water column, which it can bind at a suction voltage pF >= 1.8 or in pores with an equivalent diameter <= 50 µm. The classification is made according to KA5, p. 349, tab. 74. — Usable field capacity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth is the amount of soil water in volume % or mm water column, which it can bind at a defined suction voltage between pF = 1.8 and pF = 4.2 or in pores with an equivalent diameter between 50 µm and 0.2 µm. The classification is made according to KA5, p. 349, tab. 74. — Air capacity of the floor up to 100 cm profile depth is the pore space, which is filled with air at field capacity with a defined suction voltage of pF > 1.8. It is a measure of oxygen supply to plant roots. The classification is made according to KA5, p. 349, tab. 74. — Saturated water conductivity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth is a measure of the permeability of a water-saturated soil. The classification is made according to KA5, p. 355, tab. 80. — Potential cation exchange capacity of the soil up to 100 cm profile depth represents the amount of interchangeably bound cations at the sorption complex at a pH of 8.2. The classification is made according to KA5, p. 362, tab. 85.
