Air exchange areas are areas (primarily green areas, but in some cases also track, road and water areas) that carry corridor winds into the overheated urban area. The areas usually have an above-average cold air volume flow rate and are mainly characterised by high flow velocities.
If the flow path of the air exchange areas crosses air pollutant emission sources, the air additions are sometimes transported to areas far from source and cause an increase in air pollution.
