The overall breakdown of the country into spatial categories in the 2002 Land Development Plan (LEP) 2002 in text and in a map shows the large-scale differences in the settlement structure. According to settlement density and other criteria, spatial categories are defined: Compaction spaces and edge zones around the compaction rooms as well as the rural area with two subcategories. Room categories are the basis for sub-area-specific objectives in the LEP and in the regional plans. Plan clause 2.1.1 LEP 2002 According to the structure of the settlement, the following spatial categories are defined in the LEP 2002: — Densification spaces as large-area areas with a strongly above-average density of settlements and intensive internal interdependence. — Edge zones around the compacting rooms as adjacent to compaction areas with considerable density. — Rural area, divided into densification areas in rural areas as urban-environmental areas with close interdependencies and considerable density of settlements as well as rural areas in the narrow sense as large areas with mostly well below average settlement density and a high proportion of open space.
