Due to increased nature conservation requirements, the occurrence areas of local woods in Baden-Württemberg deviate from the area landscape defined throughout Germany in 2012 by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) to the extent that the occurrence areas 4 West German Bergland and Oberrheingraben (BMUB) and 5 Black Forest, Württembergisch-Fränkisches Hügelland and Schwäbisch-Fränkische Alb (BMUB) in Baden-Württemberg to the occurrence areas 4.1 West German Bergland, Spessart-Rhön-Region (BW) and 4.2 Oberrheingraben (BW) as well as 5.1 South German Hill and Mountain Country, Franconian Plates and Central Franconian Basins (BW) and 5.2 Swabian and Franconian Alb (BW). Guarantees of origin for locally owned woods — with the exception of forest timbers subject to the Forest Propagation Goods Act (FoVG) — must always be based on these areas.
