Digital terrain models (DGMs) are numerical models of terrain heights and shapes reduced to a regular grid. They describe the terrain surface as the interface between the solid earth body and the water on the one hand and the air on the other by a representative three-dimensional dot set. In addition to regularly distributed elevation points (DGM grids), DGM can contain structural elements in the form of terrain lines and special terrain points. In the DGM10, points with a grid width of 10 m are guided and possibly supplemented by structural elements. DGMs do not represent objects on the earth’s surface (e.g. trees or houses).
