Motivation:
The calculation and graphical representation of the tide-independent characteristics of the water level can help to further illuminate some aspects of the system behavior of natural waters. In contrast to the tide characteristic values of the water level, the determination of the tide-independent water level parameters primarily serves to analyse the (system) behavior of: — not tide-dominated waters, such as coastal waters and estuaries along the Baltic coast, or extreme situations, such as storm surges in estuaries bordering the North Sea, which are characterised by a water level course that differs significantly from the mean tides, as well as for the determination of water level characteristics for any long or short analysis periods. A detailed description of the analysis modes can be found in BAWiki (http://wiki.baw.de/de/index.php/Tideunabhängige_Kennwerte_des_Wasserstands).
