Based on the Saxon mileage sheets, historical topographic maps were created in Saxony after 1872. In a first stage, the equidistant cards were created. Due to new measurements and improvements, the measuring table sheets were created. The card sheets are available as scanned cards at the Saxon State and State Library SLUB. Of the equidistant cards of Saxony there are 156 sheets, isolated in various parts. Runs at the SLUB offer “Deutsche Fotothek” can be researched. Unlike today’s topographic maps, these are degrees division maps where Ferro’s zero meridian (17°40′ west of Greenwich) was used. A sheet section overview of all map sheets is available as a map service (WMS) entitled “WMS Historical Topographic Maps of Saxony” and is operated by the Faculty of Geoinformation, Laboratory Geoinformatics of HTW Dresden. The WMS service is available at the following URL: http://geoinformatik.htw-dresden.de/cgi-bin/hist_tk The GetFeatureInfo function leads to the detailed view (light table) of the map forum of the SLUB, where you can view a high-resolution scan, retrieve further information and make an order.
