An impact area is an area at the surface of the day where mining measures can theoretically cause mountain damage. A typical example is possible reductions.
More details on the area of action are listed in § 120 of the Federal Mountain Act (BBergG) and is regulated by the Bergverordnung on Effect Areas (Inaction Area Mountain Ordinance — EinwirkungsBergV). It applies to all underground mining operations, to mining operations using drilling and to underground storage facilities other than pore storage facilities.
