The “Geological Map of Bavaria 1:500,000” provides an overview of the spread of rocks throughout Bavaria and the adjacent areas (1 km in reality corresponds to 2 mm on the map). The basis of the GK 500 is the topographic overview map of Bavaria 1:500,000. Together with the corresponding explanatory book, the GK 500 is the standard work on the geology of Bavaria and is now available in the fourth edition of 1996. For the WMS service, some areas, boundaries and labels of the original card of 1996 have been changed (as of February 2015). For the GK 500, all available larger-scale mappings were evaluated. According to the character of an overview map, the representation of the rock spread is strongly generalised and the top layers are largely suppressed. For this reason, the GK 500 is only suitable as a basis for large-scale planning that depends on the geological construction of an area. For the design of local projects, large-scale geological maps (GK 25, GK 50) or special examinations must be used. Maximum image size: 4096 x 4096 pixels.
