Geological Overview Saxony-Anhalt without Quaternary (GÜK400oQ)

The presentation service for the Geological Survey of Saxony-Anhalt is being revised and is currently not available (end quarter 1 2021). The map without quaternary cover covers only recent geological formations (quarters). This map therefore also shows the economically significant tertiary sediments that are economically important by their lignite deposits. The most important lignite mines are also recorded. The map shows that the tertiary is mainly common in the NE part (Northeast German Basin) and in the E- to SE part of the country. On the basis of linearly arranged occurrences, the influence of tectonic structures on the spread of the tertiary layer sequence is also recognizable. The map also shows areas with intense smooth storage disturbances (e.g. in the area of ice edges) and tertiary sediments caused by subrosion.
