Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in many parts of Germany in recent days. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. This map shows the change in the water surface of the trough and adjacent lakes in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen area between 06 June (7:34 CET) and 07 June (7:17 CET). The water surfaces at both times were derived from TerraSAR-X scenes with a spatial resolution of 8.25 m and 3.0 m respectively. A decline in flooding areas can be seen. The level at Priorau also dropped from 6.24 m (06 June at 6:00 CET) to 5.68 m (June 7 at 6:00 CET). RapidEye data with a spatial resolution of 5 m serve as a background image. Please note that the flood situation in urban areas, under vegetation cover and in areas with high gradients may not be fully detected due to radar geometry.
