Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in many parts of Germany in recent days. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. In Bitterfeld, the risk of flooding increases. The reason is construction work on a canal to close a dike break that has already existed for days. As a result, there is a risk of water burglary into Lake Goitzsche, which could flood parts of the city. On the other hand, the level levels at the trough decrease. The levels were around 6.00 CET in Dessau — Leopoldshafen (Elbe) about 7.09 m, Dessau Bridge (Mulde) about 5.57 m, Priorau (Mulde) about 5.68 m. The water surfaces shown in the map were derived from a TerraSAR-X scene, recorded on 07 June 2013 at 07:17 CET. RapidEye data with a spatial resolution of 5 m serve as a background image. Please note that the flood situation in urban areas, under vegetation cover and in areas with high gradients may not be fully detected due to radar geometry.
