Dataset description

The geological map of the glacially covered areas of Saxony 1: 50 000 (GK50) essentially covers the areas of the Saxon lowlands and hills, as well as parts of the mountain and mountain foreland, insofar as they are covered by glacial sediments of significant thickness. It represents the geological construction and recent development of the landscape in the Free State of Saxony. The looser and fixed rocks on the terrain surface are reproduced in the map image (surface map). The map is intended to provide the basis for assessing soil formation, water management, the spread of usable loose rocks and solid rocks, the possible range of environmental damage, landfill possibilities, etc. The following sheets have been edited and are available analogue and digital: 2465 Bitterfeld, 2466 Eilenburg, 2467 Bad Liebenwerda, 2469 Hoyerswerda, 2470 Weißwasser, 2565 Leipzig, 2566 Wurzen, 2567 Riesa, 2568 Großenhain, 2569 Kamenz, 2570 Niesky, 2665 Zeitz, 2666 Mittweida, 2667 Meissen, 2668 Dresden, 2669 Bautzen, 2670 Görlitz, 2766 Chemnitz, 2769 Pirna and 2770 Zittau. Together with the book "Lithofazieskarten Quaternary 1: 50 000“(LKQ 50) and”Lithofazieskarten Tertiary 1: 50 000" (LKT) is thus a uniform geoscientific map for the entire Northwestern Saxon region. Additional information: Special sheet cutting; Leaf cuts extend to adjacent regions of the federal states of Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt.
