Groundwater: Thickness of unsaturated soil zone
The geometric data have been developed in the framework of the project “Aquiferral water level of the main aquifer Brandenburg” in 2013.
The thickness of the unsaturated soil zone is defined as a perpendicular distance between the terrain surface and the groundwater pressure area. For regionalisation, approximately 14,100 holes and a Kriging interpolation process were used. The dissolution took place in the grid of 10x10 m. Calculated areas of < 25.000 m² have entered the enveloping area. Lakes with an area < 25.000 m² have not been taken into account and have also been dissolved into the surrounding area. Open pits (as of 2011) were cut out.
As a result of the processing, over 37,700 individual surfaces in 13 classes of thickness could be documented. Of these, 31 % of the land surface has an unsaturated soil zone of < 2 m and 50 % of < 5 m thickness.
