BGR conducted within the project „Airborne geophysical surveys for mapping the shallow subsurface in Germany “ (D-AERO) airborne surveys at the German North Sea coast. The survey area Varel (2014) is bounded by the Cities of Wilhelmshaven and Brake to the north and east, by Jaderberg, Mittelort and Sande to the south and west. The size of the area is about 319 km². The area was surveyed with 8 flights totalling to 1245 line-km (32,311 survey points). The nominal separation of the 63 WNW-ESE lines and 8 SSE-NNW tie lines was 250 m and 2000 m, respectively. The maps display the total count, the (equivalent) content of potassium, uranium and thorium as well as the exposure rate at ground.
