An image-based digital surface model (bDOM) describes the Earth’s surface and the objects on it, such as structural structures and vegetation, as regularly distributed, georeferenced high points at the time of recording the aerial images of a photogrammetric image flight. The image-based surface models derive from image correlation (usually Dense-Image-Matching) from oriented digital aerial images (DLB). For each bDOM grid point, an assignment is performed with additional attributes, such as color values (RGBI). The district government of Cologne, Geobasis NRW, provides the product bDOM50 as part of its legal mandate for North Rhine-Westphalia and continues it in a 2-year turnout. The OGC standard LAS is used as the data format in version 1.2 in Point Data Record Format 1 (PDRF 1). The data is provided via the download portal in compressed LAS format (LAZ).
