Dataset description
The product “Land cover” is provided as WMS “nw_land cover” nationwide and without overlapping for North Rhine-Westphalia. Land cover is based on the data model of the AdV, which defines 15 land cover classes (e.g. building construction, civil engineering, vegetation and waters). For land cover NRW, these classes can in principle be derived and provided with this service. It should be noted that the land cover classes “Festgestein”, “Sea” and “Ice” cannot be found in North Rhine-Westphalia. When deriving land cover, satellite data from ESA’s Copernicus programme (Sentinel-2) and spatial base data available for NRW throughout the country are used in the form of ALKIS data from the secondary data base, digital orthophotos (DOP) and the normalised digital surface model (nDOM). The timeliness of the underlying and displayed data can be requested via the GetFeatureInfo of the layer (data query). All land cover objects exceeding a minimum area of 100 m² shall be designated independently; the building construction is presented completely from a minimum size of 10 square meters. The land cover objects shall be collected with an accuracy greater than 1 meter to less than 2 metres, as far as this can be derived from the input data.
