Dataset description

The surface spread of the hydrogeological top layers is shown. A surface layer is a near-surface hydrogeological unit above the first contiguous groundwater body which, with the exception of floating groundwater in its entirety, does not contain any significant groundwater. It is completely in the area of the unsaturated zone. In the foreland of the Alps, the glacial sediments were not classified as top layers. The classification of the top layers is based on their permeability.
