Relative altitude above low line (= local erosion base). The depth line grid cells receive the value zero for the relief parameter being considered, all other raster cells receive a positive value, depending on their vertical distance to the depth line. The vertical distance to the depth line is calculated in an iterative method, with small elevation differences not taken into account. This results in a balanced picture of the relative altitude (height above erosion base). The “height above low line” is of much greater importance for analysing the relief from a geoscientific point of view than the absolute altitude. The result is significantly dependent on the depth line network used.
