Location suitability for the disposal of carcasses in case of disease trains 1: 50 000 (WMS Service)

In the event of an outbreak of disease migrations, e.g. avian influenza in Lower Saxony, the provision of land for mass removal of carcasses becomes essential. The following requirements shall be met: the lowest possible load on ground and surface water, as complete and rapid decomposition as possible and as low as possible odour nuisance. These objectives are not all achieved at the same time and to an equal extent. In principle, there are two options: Variant 1 decomposition option“and variant 2”barrier option”. Decomposition option: The sites ensure as fast and complete mineralisation as possible and have a long residence time of leachate in the soil body. Risks to groundwater cannot be completely excluded. Barrier option: The sites ensure the protection of groundwater through a barrier effect of the sites. Due to the worse ventilation, a longer and more incomplete decomposition must be accepted. In addition, there may be temporary leachate congestion.
