This photo is the card “Løgumkloster, Westerland, Tønder” with sheet number 3. The topographical photographs, mainly from the last quarter of the 18th century, were recorded in 1804 and 1805 by H. du Plat, Pr. Lieutenant in Cron Printzen Regiment, with the help of Lieutenants Ferd. Bauditz, Fr. Wilster and Tauencia collected and recorded. The original scale is 1:57,600. The cards were reissued in a scale of 1:100,000 in 8 partial cards. The historical maps are contemporary cultural witnesses of cartography and in particular reflect the political distribution of power. The historically interested user of the map can easily get a picture of the prevailing power of the country and the subsequent developments. The map representation is unusual compared to today’s cards. This mainly includes compliance with an odd scale. The reason is the conversion of rod, cubit or foot dimensions. Furthermore, the maps were mainly used for the military purposes of the respective sovereign.
