Geotopes represent earth-historical formations of inanimate nature that convey insights into the evolution of the Earth or of previous life on Earth. Geotopes include rocks, fossils, landscape forms and spring formations. Geoptopes of the same genes are combined into geotope types.The statutory protection of geotopes is regulated by the Land Nature Protection Act M-V.
Information on the legally protected geotopes is compiled by the Geological Service.
All cartographic data are digitised, the data from the survey sheets are included in the geotope cadastre.
On this basis, the data from the mapping results are digitally processed, used and also made available to the general public.
