With the minimum potential risk of nitrate discharge, the minimum risk of nitrate leaching from the root space of vegetation is assessed by leaking soil water. The place of assessment is the lower limit of the rooted soil layer. The quotient of leachate rate and usable field capacity in the effective root space (nFCs) initially provides the exchange frequency of the plant-available soil water. This is classified in 5 levels (very low — very high) and results in the PNAG. The characteristic value of the potential nitrate discharge hazard is not suitable for deriving quantitative statements, since usage-dependent influences (including crop type, nitrogen quantities added and discharged, autumn nitrate content in soil) are not taken into account. The calculation of the potential nitrate discharge hazard according to bundle method is based on the evaluation method 5.3 (AG soil, 2000b).
