Legal basis: Nature reserve § 23 BNatSchG and § 16 NAGBNatSchG. Protection intensity: it’s up. Nature reserves are legally binding areas where special protection of nature and landscape is required in their entirety or in individual parts 1. For the conservation, development or restoration of habitats, biotopes or communities of certain wild fauna and flora, 2. for scientific, natural history or land-cultural reasons; or 3. because of their rarity, special peculiarity or excellent beauty. Designated nature reserves (NSG) in the district of Göttingen are: NSG “Bachtäler im Kaufunger Wald” as a core zone for the implementation of part of the FFH area of the same name No 143; NSG ‘Butterberg and Hopfenbusch near Bartolfelde’ as implementation of FFH area No 405 ‘Butterberg/Hopfenbusch’; NSG “Baller Bag” as the implementation of the FFH area of the same name No 141; NSG “Through, Large Butterhole and Floating Island”; NSG “Gipskarstgebiet near Bad Sachsa”; NSG “Gipskarstlandschaft bei Ührde”; NSG “Gipskarstlandschaft Hainholz” as implementation of the FFH area No. 133 “Gipskartsgebiet near Osterode”; NSG “Göttinger Wald” as the implementation of the FFH area of the same name No 138; NSG “Great Leinebusch”; NSG Oderaue’; NSG “Ossenberg-Fehrenbusch”; NSG ‘Rhumeaue, Ellerniederung, Schmalau and Thiershäuser Teiche’ as implementation of FFH area No 134 ‘Sieber, Oder, Rhume’; NSG ‘Seeanger, Retlake, Suhletal’ as the implementation of the Habitats Area No 139 of the same name and part of Bird Conservation Area V 19; NSG “Seeburger See” as the implementation of the Habitats Area No 140 and part of the V 19 Bird Protection Area; NSG “Siebertal”; NSG “Staufenberg”; NSG “Steinberg bei Scharzfeld”; NSG “Devil baths”; NSG “Totenberg”; NSG “Weper, Gladeberg and Aschenburg” as the core zone for the implementation of part of the FFH area of the same name No. 132; NSG “Bratental” (city of GÖ) NSG “Stadtwald Göttingenger u. Kerstlingeröder Feld” (city of GÖ) Some habitat types (LRTs), conservation states (EHZ) and reproductive and resting sites (F+R) have been defined for NSGs, which are part of the respective conservation purpose.
