Outflow area of ÜG Elbe 2018
The outflow area is part of the fixed flooding area of the Elbe (ÜG). Its outer boundary is included in the cards to the ÜG Elbe. The outflow area became valid with the public interpretation of the maps of the ÜG Elbe during the period from 1 October to 15 October 2018.
This area, in which there is a flat, directed current in the event of floods, is essential for the unhindered discharge of the flood. The current expression of the drainage area was mainly determined in 2004 and depends in particular on the so-called discharge intensity (flow velocity > 0.5 m/s and intensity as a product of flow velocity and water depth > 0.5 m²/s). Obvious errors in the demarcation have been corrected for the map representation valid from October 2018 and the limitation of the drain area has been largely adapted to the lines of the existing flood protection systems. However, the experience gained from the large floods in 2006 and 2013 and analyses based on the updated 2D-HN model Elbe shows that the outflow intensity is not sufficient as the sole criterion for a technically correct demarcation of the drain area. A review and revision of the drain area is currently underway. After completion, an update will be made.
