Overview map of surface raw materials in Rhineland-Palatinate

WMS service LGB: Rhineland-Palatinate is rich in mineral resources, whose use dates back to historical times. A large number of mining sites of ores and coals show that the Celts and Romans already appreciated this wealth. Today, the distribution areas of near-surface mineral raw materials, as shown in the map, are the primary objective of mining activity. In European comparison, the high-quality tones of the Westerwald and the various volcanic rocks of the Eifel are of outstanding importance for the predominantly medium-sized industry. The overview map is based on the prognostic raw material map of FALKE & Negendank (University of Mainz and Trier) as well as extensive own investigations.
