On Friday, November 8, typhoon Haiyan (category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale) met in the Philippines at 4:40 am local time. With wind speeds of more than 300 km/h, the typhoon moved across the islands of Samar and Leyte in the west-northwest direction, triggering numerous storm surges that caused large-scale destruction. According to official estimates, more than 2,300 people died. Hundreds of thousands became homeless.The map shows the situation around the village of San Remigio.
