On Friday, November 8, the typhoon Haiyan met in the Philippines. It triggered storm surges and led to thousands of dead, nearly two million homeless people and large-scale destruction in the central Philippines. Based on a visual interpretation of a post-satellite image (Pléiades, 14/11/2013, 02:10), a detailed damage assessment was made. The number of damaged buildings has been combined for a 250 m cell. In cloudy areas, the number of damaged buildings is likely to be underestimated. Due to limited data, the individual buildings and roads are not in every case completely displayed. This map was created in cooperation between the emergency carting teams of SERTIT and DLR/ZKI.
