The implementation of the requirements of the German Energy Saving Ordinance EnEV and the Hamburg Climate Protection Ordinance also changed the appearance of the old building stock in the course of its facade insulation.
The brick areas, particularly those of the 1920s and 1930s, are characteristic of Hamburg’s cultural heritage. In order to develop ways of preserving the appearance of these areas — for example by special additional promotion of a belt covering by means of regional funding — a mapping of the preserved brick stock was established as the first step.
In particular, brick-embossed residential areas (residential quarters, housing estates and building ensembles) in the storey building with their surroundings were recorded. For single-family and semi-detached areas, the focus of the survey is on settlements of the 20s and 30s and earlier. But also areas of the 50/60s with brick embossing of minor importance were mapped (urban location, their urban and architectural design and/or by facade insulation with “belts”).
