The protected area boundaries of the National Park are provided as vector coordinates according to the coordinate system EPSG:25832.
The Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park, with its 13,750 hectares, is the smallest of the three Wadden Sea National Parks. It was designated in 1990 to ensure the special natural beauties and natural processes under the motto “Let nature be nature”.
With the recognition of UNESCO as a biosphere reserve in 1992, the natural orientation of the uses taking place on parts of the island of Neuwerk became increasingly important.
On 27 June 2011, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Paris decided to include the Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park as part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site in the list of World Heritage Sites of Human Eit.
