Dataset description

The demand for space heat was determined for the first time in the course of the potential study Renewable Energies NRW Part 4 — Geothermal Energy. This is a model demand calculated under conservative assumptions. On average, it tends to be higher than actual heat consumption. The data are available at building level and per road section (heat lines). The heating requirements of the residential buildings were determined on the basis of the floor area and height of the building. In addition, assumptions regarding the year of construction of the buildings were made from data from the census and taken into account in a recalculation in 2016. The revision in 2020 has allowed the model to be significantly improved again. In addition to the room heat demand, the demand for hot water also flows into the model at a flat rate of 15 kWh per square meter. The space heating requirements of non-residential buildings were determined on the basis of the building usage, height and floor area. Process heat requirements were not taken into account here. The classification of residential and non-residential buildings may lead to confusion due to mixed uses. The data set is based on the ALKIS building stock as of 03/2019. The attributes are explained in more detail in the respective documentation (Hausumringe.pdf/Waermeliniendichte.pdf). The data set will be updated if necessary, without any specific rotation being foreseen.
