The soil function assessment procedure (BFBV LAU) identifies soils from the Land of Saxony-Anhalt with the degree of performance of the natural soil functions and the function as an archive of natural and cultural history in accordance with § 2 BBodSchG. For the sub-function Living basis and habitat for plants, the natural soil fertility (or yield potential) and the site potential for natural plant societies (close to nature), and for the sub-function part of the natural household, the water management function (water management potential) of the soil and the archive function (archival soil map) are presented. The performance assessment is carried out in five stages (from very high (5) to very low (1)). The overall assessment shall be determined by the user on the basis of the maximum value principle. In the case of effects on the soil, the assessments can be used to assess whether areas with very high, high, medium, low or very low performance of soil functions are affected. Assessment levels 5 and 4 show the areas to be specially protected from the point of view of soil protection. The BFBV-LAU includes the ST-BIS Thematic Cards 26 and 55.
